Psalm 46; EJW's translation from the Hebrew
Created by Karen 4 years ago
(for the musical director: for the Qorach family, a song for sopranos).
God’s our refuge, God’s our stronghold,
Ever present help in trouble,
Even when the whole earth crashes,
Mountains burn and turn to rubble,
Crash down to the deep sea’s bottom,
While the ocean foams and rages;
Though the mountains quake and shiver
Shaken from their rocky stages,
Still there is no need for terror,
There is nothing we should fear,
God’s our refuge, God’s our stronghold
On and on, and year by year.
Change the accompaniment.
There’s a stream, whose bubbling waters
Freshen Elohim’s own town,
Making clean the sacred temple
Where the Most High God sits down.
Elohim’s there at its centre;
In His strength it’s never shaken.
Elohim always will save her
At the moment danger’s breaking.
Tumults may shake other nations,
Kingdoms fall, and when He’s spoken
Earth may melt, but YHWH’s with us,
Yaaqov’s God sees we’re not broken.
Come and see YHWH’s achievements,
What He’s done is quite amazing.
Peace He’s brought and wars are over,
Everywhere and in all nations!
Bows and spears He’s snapped in pieces,
Burned the shields, arms decommissioned.
“Wait, be still, know I AM true God!
I will have all men’s submission!”
God, supreme among all nations,
God, supreme the whole world over.
YHWH, God of Power is with us,
Yaaqov’s God will be our tower.
