1 Chelmsford Gardens

Bought to allow room for growing family outgrowing Ethelbert Gardens.  Bank manager refused a tide-over loan on the ground that £7,000 was an excessive price to pay for a 3 bedroomed semi-detached property and that property prices would never reach such a high peak ever again!
Fortunately Woodbridge & Company were able to oblige.

The photo is probably around 1970 after the building of the downstairs cloakroom and the outer doors on the porch

Dad's life story records that it sold for about £90,000 in 1986 but Peter disputes this and seems to recall that it was closer to £250,000; he had bought a 2-bed apartment in Exeter in 1985 for around £36,000 and then sold in 1987 for £45,000!
